Out of torments, light comes to life. Out of solitude, an unspeakable solidarity arises. The story of a man walking, drawing his strength from both hardships and support offered by people he met on the way. Among them: Stuart Staples, singing "A meaning shovelfull of promises", inviting Thomas Belhom to open the concerts of the 2012 European Tour of his band The Tindersticks.

Rocéphine comes after a journey initiated by many adventures, within a band (Calexico, Amor Belhom Duo, Tindersticks) or solo ("Remedios" and "No Border" albums), reflection of this new album which leaves on the side the wide spaces and invites to the inner journey.

Rocéphine is more than ever a fresco, sometimes hard, of reality. A reality which seems simply easier to face when told by Thomas Belhom, whose accuracy is made to reassure, allowing one to take some distance from one's surroundings, emotions and fears. He offers a gaze, an interpretation, he offers the wealth of life to sift the inspiration out, inspiration that helps not to sink when the way looks uncertain. The heightened intimacy emanating from Rocephine recalls Robert Wyatt "Rock Bottom", whose writing was created in a similar context. Fifteen deep, dark and dreamlike songs compose "Rocéphine" (name of the substance that cured Thomas). One can think of the album of a rebirth, exploring successively friendship ("A meaning shovelfull of promises" quoted above), reality of a long expectation ("L'avancée en moi", "Temps allongé"), mixed events of a birth and a death ("Dans ma maison", "Rue de l'espérance"). As a unique percussionnist, he also paints abstract landscapes (Ciel", "Champignon agréable"), and his melancholy does not stop him from finding the sun here ("Excursion") or showing his fury there ("Go TV!").

Rocéphine is based on a rich work of composition and arrangement in which each note, detail and melody create an extremely distressed and melancholic world. It is up to each one of us to enhance the listening to Rocéphine with one's own experience. This is the most personal album by Thomas Belhom and yet, it is the album which was most brought up by the encounter with others and the world that surrounds them. As before, it is hard to stick Thomas Belhom's music to a specific musical trend. His work is made of countless influences , "pop", "post-rock", "folk", "blues". Hybrid and always coherent, Rocéphine reveals easily and gradually its richness to the listener
